Haile + Clayton’s Legare Waring House Wedding
A morning inside the historic house, a pond-side first look, and portraits beneath Charleston’s moss-covered oaks.

This Legare Waring House wedding put me on both sides of the camera.
I stood beside Haile as a bridesmaid and photographed the pieces I could step away for: getting ready inside the house, time with her mom and daughter, the walk downstairs, Clayton waiting beside the lagoon, and their first portraits together.
Rather than presenting the celebration as complete coverage, this post follows the chapters I witnessed as both her friend and photographer. That perspective made the collection feel more personal than usual.
BEFORE THE FIRST LOOK
Getting Ready Inside the House
The upstairs rooms at Legare Waring House bring together soft window light, patterned walls, antique furniture, and enough architectural detail to make a simple morning feel visually layered.
Haile’s mom helped secure the back of her gown before her daughter joined her for a few unhurried minutes. Their expressions and subtle gestures carried the photographs without needing much direction.

A MOMENT IN MOTION
The Walk Downstairs
Haile came down the wallpapered staircase and crossed through the house toward the garden. The floral walls, curved railing, and narrow landing gave the transition more character than a standard hallway could.

THE WALK DOWNSTAIRS

A Pond-Side First Look
Clayton waited near the water while Haile crossed the lawn toward him. Spanish moss hung overhead, and the lagoon created space between them and the busier areas surrounding the house.
A first-look location does not require an elaborate setup. Open shade, privacy, room to move, and a background supporting the moment are usually enough. This area offered all four.

THE FIRST LOOK

AFTER THE REVEAL
Portraits That Feel Like Them
Once they had seen each other, the energy became lighter. We walked, stopped when the setting worked, and allowed the movement between frames to become part of the story.
For couples planning a Legare Waring House wedding, the property offers several distinct portrait settings without requiring extra transportation. The lagoon feels secluded, the lawn gives wider photographs room to breathe, and the oak-lined avenue creates scale.

THE CHARLESTON SETTING
Why a Legare Waring House Wedding Photographs So Well
Located within Charles Towne Landing, Legare Waring House pairs an 1840s residence with lagoons, garden spaces, a fountain patio, and a formal avenue lined with mature live oaks.
Each part of the property creates a different visual language. The rooms inside feel intimate, the garden-facing exterior offers clean architecture, and the surrounding landscape gives wider portraits a defined sense of place.
